Practice on Earth was founded in 2023 by Haotian Wu and Cloe Yun Wang, both of whom received Master of Architecture degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Based in their hometown of Suzhou, the studio pursues a design agenda that bridges cultural locality with technological experimentation. The complexity of contemporary practice leads them to approache architecture as a collaborative exploration involving diverse stakeholders and disciplines.  They believe that design should resist rigid paradigms, navigating countless possibilities before arriving at a precise realization. In just two years of practice, the studio has won a series of culturally oriented international competitions, including the First Prize in the international competition for the Moganshan Core Scenic Area, and the First Prize in the international competition for the Renewal of Doumen Ancient Town in Shaoxing. As for built projects, they have engaged with China’s existing urban and rural fabric, using architecture as a lever to explore long-term possibilities of renewal. In Zhouzhuang’s facade renovation, they sought to reconcile past and present through refined formal and material gestures. In Down in the Clouds, they merged prefabricated systems with inflatables to respond to the urgent demands for speed and flexibility. And in the Stage of Mountains and Seas, they proposed a rural intervention rooted in the very pulse of its site.
